What Helped Me Most This Week
Not reading this time!
I’m trying to do something creative every day. I’m documenting it here.
This week, I watched Star Trek: First Contact with commentary from Blank Check, went to the movies to see Mickey 17, saw Sex, Lies, and Video Tape at a friend’s birthday party, read some poems from a few different ARCs in hopes of finding one to review, listened to “Peculiar, Missouri” by Willi Carlisle, and worked on editing my novel a few different days. Of all of that, the thing that helped me the most this week was Sex, Lies, and Video Tape.
With this one, it wasn’t entirely about the movie. It’s fun to watch and kind of strange overall, but what really helped me this week was just going to a party. I got to see some good friends and meet some new ones, and while the movie was fun, what really made it work was the fact that a lot of folks were doing bits throughout the whole thing. The movie actually started and ended with a bit—the host/birthday boy edited it so that the opening credit was Morbius, and then surprised us all again by making the end credits Morbius, too. That kind of thing always blows me away, because I know it took a lot of work, but he did it anyway just to make all his friends laugh.
So, that’s what actually helped my creativity, and also helped me generally, the most this week.
Love and gratitude, as always.
