What Helped Me Most This Week

Hint: It was a book

I’m trying to do something creative every day. I’m documenting it here.

This week, I posted to my Patreon, made a drawing with Posca markers on canvas, listened to The Magnus Archives, and read stories in an anthology called Afterglow: Climate Fiction for Future Ancestors. Of all of that, the thing that helped me the most last week was Afterglow: Climate Fiction for Future Ancestors.

To some extent, it has a lot of the flaws that many anthologies have--the stories can be a little hit or miss, or they can feel too short and rushed. But, it's a very cool collection. The whole idea is that all of the stories happen in the distant future, where climate change has caused a lot of havoc. The stories all have this hopeful bent though, showing people being resilient and finding hopeful ways forward. It's not the best anthology I've ever picked up, but it's maybe what I needed right now, considering the political climate.

Aside from all of that though, this collection is helping to remind me of just how much I enjoy sci-fi. I watched a lot of Star Trek going up, and I think it imprinted on my brain a little. I've never put real effort toward writing it, but maybe it's something I'll keep in mind for the future.

Love and gratitude, as always.
